What is Ghana Month?

            Ghana Month is the month of March. In March, Ghanaians throughout the country celebrate Ghana. It is in this month that Ghana gained independence from its colonial master, Great Britain on the 6th of March 1957.

            Ghana became the new name after its initial name, Gold Coast Ghana was led to independence by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who declared Ghana independent at the Old Polo Grounds, which is now the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra.    

 What do people do in Ghana Month?

  •  In Ghana Month, most institutions go traditional: they try to be as Ghanaian as possible. Media houses make their presenters, hosts, and other media personalities dress traditionally.

  • They wear traditional wears such as the Kente, batakari from the northern part of Ghana, other traditional prints, and other traditional prints. They also organize events and other programs promoting Ghana at the center.

  • Ghanian movies are shown more on television stations. Ghanaian music is also played more especially patriotic songs in this month.

  • Schools also organize Cultural Day or African Day. On this day, pupils or students are made to wear traditional clothing to school with the aim of imbibing in them, the Ghanaian spirit and patriotism.

  • The Ghanian foods are also highly promoted this month. Ghana has numerous foods. A number of them are popular. In Ghana Month, more foods are promoted.

            In all, Ghana Month is all about Ghana. It is a month in which Ghanaians celebrate who they are and promote their culture.
