     The Ghana Library Authority in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning introduces the Read2skill or Workforce Recovery Program in 2020 to help people gain new skills. This was targeted at people who have lost their jobs or are on the verge of losing their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They could gain new skills through online courses on Coursera, an online learning platform. These skills are skills that are in high demand such as data science, search engine optimization, among many other courses in various fields of work.

 Now the Google edition has been launched by the Ghana Library Authority(GHLA).

You can apply here. This is a way to gain a free scholarship from Coursera as a Ghanaian resident in Ghana.

When was the Read2skill Google Edition launched?


The Read2skill Google Edition was launched on the 9th of March 2021 at 11 am through a Zoom meeting at their office.

Are the courses limited?

No. There is an unlimited number of courses.

Is Read2skill Google Edition free?

Yes. It is totally free.

Do I need any form of experience to take the courses?

No. The courses are beginner-friendly with no prerequisite knowledge.


Would I gain a certificate from the courses I take?

Yes. You would gain a certificate for each course you successfully complete.

How would the courses be rolled out?

The courses are 100% online. They would be rolled out on Coursera, an online learning platform.

How do I apply for Read2skill Google Edition?

Does my application guarantee enrolment?

No. Enrollment would be based on ‘first come first served.’ Shortlisted applicants would be contacted.

Can I read more than one course?

Yes. But it is advised you take one module at a time.

Is this open to just Ghanaians? Can foreigners living in Ghana apply?

No. The scholarship opportunity is opened to just Ghanaian nationals who are residents in Ghana.

Are there fixed deadlines for the courses?

No. There are no fixed deadlines. You learn at your own pace. You can refix assignment deadlines with no penalties.

Targeted groups for this project include:

  1.  Unemployed citizens in search of skills.
  2.  Informal and formal sector employees on the verge of losing their jobs and wish to upgrade themselves or acquire new skills. 
  3.  Individuals in search of immediate skills to improve on their living standards.
  4.   Individuals who lost their jobs due to the covid-19 pandemic.
